Byrock Water Supply

Byrock is located 79km south of Bourke on the Matilda Highway. This village relies on rainfall for its non potable water supply. Rain that falls in the village catchment area is channeled into a large ground tank. With the assistance of a floculant, this water is allowed to settle out in the tank. The clear water is then pumped to a historical railway tank and gravitated to the 45 permanent residents of the village. During periods of drought water restrictions are put in place with the water being for internal use only. When the ground tank runs dry, water is carted from Bourke by road tanker.
