Levees
Last modified: September 23, 2009 - 7:17 PM
The town of Bourke is located within the Darling River floodplain and is subject to periodic flooding.
In 2001 flood levee rectification work was completed. The town levee is 10.5km long and reconstructed to a level of approximately one metre above the 1 in 100 year flood level. The river gauge height of the levee crest is 15.5 metres. To ensure the security of the town, Council staff conduct an annual review of the Bourke Levee Maintenance Manual. The village of Louth is also protected from flooding by an earthen levee.
