Water sampling in Bourke Shire Council includes all water supplies.

With help from NSW Health Water Unit, a water testing system has been implemented to monitor all water supplies. A state database has been created, allowing the regulatory authorities and Council to have access to water sampling results.

Bourke town is supplied with two water supplies: raw (untreated) and filtered. There is weekly monitoring, with council officers collecting samples from various points around the town and sending them to the division of analytical laboratories for testing. These tests help determine the effectiveness of the filtration plant.

There are 5 villages that have water that is supplied by council. This water is not for drinking purpose and is classified non-potable supplies. The villages of Fords Bridge, Wannaaring, Engonnia and Byrock all have council maintained bores, Louth has two supplies, a bore and the river. These supplies are monitored on a monthly basis. Sampling does increase in times off flood and in low rivers.
